As of lately, I’ve received a bunch of emails concerning my
Master Bedroom Bed Skirt.
The most common question I get asked is….
“What is your trick behind making the skirt so Full and Ruffled?”
Answer…. It’s not actually a bed skirt, but it’s really just a very long piece of fabric that I ruffled together.
I only have the fabric on two sides of the bed, I didn’t bother with the foot board!
The next question I get asked is…
“If it’s just fabric, how is the fabric staying in place?”
Answer..That is a hard one to answer so instead, Here are a few pictures in hopes to explain this CRAZY invention of mine.
(Ok, Maybe not really an invention, but more like an easy way out of not having to sew the darn thing) 🙂
I bought this fabric from Pottery Barn.
What you are seeing here is
10 yards of fabric that is 60 inches wide.
I stuffed enough fabric under the mattress to ensure it stayed in place.
I pretty much just start on one end of the bed and made my way to the to the other end gathering as I went 🙂
I bought a memory foam cover on eBay to add to the comfort of my bed (VERY IMPORTANT)
This is what the fabric looks like under my mattress, YES I Know….So professional (wink)
Honestly, this bed skirt was the easiest project I have ever done. I didn’t even bother sewing the raw edges. I just folded them under all nice and tucked away!
In truth, this Bed Skirt as simple as it is REALLY makes a BIG statement in the room. I love how it turned out!
I don’t think I would have been able to accomplish the same look by sewing it?!? Let’s be honest… I’m not THAT great of a seamstress and I know FOR SURE
I would have ended up TOTALLY frustrated with a HUGE headache!
And the BEST part about not sewing it…
I get to use the fabric again somewhere else, if I ever decide to change up my bedding :)

I'm a little confused. Do you put the fabric over the box springs and ruffle it or cut two pieces for both sides then ruffle ?

Brockey,
Yes..It is a bit confusing. I cut 2 long pieces of fabric. one for each side. I then started gathering my fabric. The weight of mattress keeps the fabric in place. The fabric is caught between the mattress and the box spring. Let me know if that helps??

Thank you, that answered my question. Your home is lovely .

It looks amazing!! I love the fulness of the skirt. The idea of being able to reuse the fabric for something else is great, too. A thrifty woman's dream.
I came over from TT&J.
