“M” room is the one room in my entire house that has been a HUGE Thorne in my side! It started out GREAT!!! I thought for sure I wanted pink and green, the room in a whole was darling but… the longer I lived around it, the more I became unsure.
I don’t know if it was the green bed or the pink walls but something started wearing on me.
Before I go any further into this story I have to explain something about me. “Color” in general REALLY affects me. I mean REALLY affects me. I know this sounds super crazy but for example: when I am pregnant I can’t decorate, or for that matter, even LOOK at a paint deck until I’m about 6 months along. If I DO attempt to decorate while feeling sick, then any time after I look at that bed spread or paint color or lamp that I bought while sick, it invokes a flood of memories of MORNING sickness and I start to dry heave and become nauseous… NO JOKING!!
Just the other day I went through my old maternity clothes and the entire time I felt sick to my stomach like I wanted to throw up! So…YES I am extremely sensitive to color! Now that I think about it…I pick restaurants not based on the food they serve but the atmosphere of the restaurant.
Hummmmmm…Am I alone on this??? or am I just CRAZY;)
To add to the craziness I don’t go to Disneyland for the rides, I go for the ambiance!
Sooooo you can imagine on a GOOD day, if I don’t like the color I am surrounded by, you better believe I will change it ๐
I wanted to design a bedroom that Missy could grow into.
I didn’t want it to feel too young, but at the same time I didn’t want it to look or feel like a basic guest Room either.
I wanted a room that whenever I walked into it I would “sigh”… and have the feeling of โI LOVE ITโ!! hehe
If I don’t absolutely LOVE something I have this REALLY bad habit of going down a decorating downward spiral, I seem to re-do and re-vamp until it’s a decorating mess, Aughhhhh!!!, at which point I just have to stop until I see something that inspires me.
Unfortunately with “M” room, I haven’t found ANYTHING for the past 2 YEARS… until NOW!!!!
Let me back up for just a second…Here is a short HISTORY of where we started with “M” room!
First we started with pink walls,
It was Super pretty…But I don’t know??? I just wasn’t feeing it, I guess I just had something else in mind for the room.
Sooo, I then painted one wall green
(that was a instant No!) and then I turned to blue…Which is the same color as the Nursery upstairs (Snow Cloud-Columbia paint)
Here is a sneek peek!!
After two years of THINKING about what I was going to do, I finally found it thanks to PINTREST,
(oh…how I LOVE Pintrest) And Neiman Marcus
Here is my plan…letโs just hope I like the bedding as MUCH in person as I do the picture!!!
To cut down on the price, I only bought the quilt and 2 embroidered shams.
I figure I can finish off the look of the bed by finding items at
either TJ Maxx or on eBay!
Or I also thought it would be fun to add pillows like this!
My first inspiration for Missy’s Room came from this picture!
I have been looking at this picture for the past year. Every time I see it, I fall in love all over again!
I have BIG plans to do a tree similar to this but, with a little bit of Heidi flair added to it ๐
I can see the entire room in my head…soooo, thatโs always a good thing! That means I am on the right path when I can visualize the project from start to finish.
I will keep you all POSTED!!
Oh, and one more thing… for those of you that have been asking about the toy closet? I have to be honest, I hit one of those
“I’M NOT LOVING” it moods..so, I am waiting for some inspiration to kick in, and I will then finish it!
I will post it soon, I PROMISE!!
Thanks for being patient and waiting on “REAL TIME”
Thanks for being patient and waiting on “REAL TIME”
as I get these projects done ๐

I think the problem in the room (and what may be preventing you from loving it) is the carpet. It's what caught my eye first, for sure. I might consider replacing with wood flooring and throw rugs.

Hi Heidi,
Would you be so kind as to share where you found that bedding? It's just gorgeous!
Thanks,
KT

You have some wonderful ideas! I can't wait to see the finished room. I do understand, you can't finish something until you get inspired. I am the same way. I just wish I was inspired more often!

Hey All..Ok so I got the first Bedding from Pottery barn kids a few years back! I bought 2 quilts one for the bed and the other I used to sew custom pillows.
The 2nd bedding..The NEW bedding, I got from http://www.neimanmarcus.com under their kids bedding section!
Hope that helps!! ๐

The SAME THING happens to me with paint when I am pregnant!!! SO glad to know that I am not the only one! I also made my husband change his shirt a few times in the delivery room – b/c the color and pattern on it was making me very nauseas! Your blog is beautiful – btw!

megan…OMG I am totally laughing here!!! I am the SAME WAY!! my hubby can't wear after shave or wear anything that is has CRAZY patterns!!! We are the SAME!! I also can't handle the smell of hair when I'm prego! it's soooo weird!!! When I was prego with my first we needed a new bed spread so I bought one from PB it was VERY pretty and VERY expensive but 2 months later I HAD to get rid of it. I would feel nauseas the entire day because of it. TO CRAZY!!!! Hope you have a wonderful day!!!

Sooo glad to hear there are others who feel the sme way when they are pregnant! I thought I was just some psycho lady. Maybe I am, sounds like you are too! Hehehe….
I have learned NEVER to do room redo's when in the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. When I was pregnant with my 2nd, I found this great upholstery fabric and made huge throw pillows. Then about a week later I couldn't stand the sight of them, and it had absolutely nothing to do with them, just with how I felt when I made them. I gave them to my sister but I still have to hide them when we visit or I start feeling terrible again! Can't stand to even think about them.
Last year we bought our first barbecue, a really nice and pretty red one. I was about 6 weeks pregnant when we set it up and had our first barbecue. It ruined the whole thing for me. I have to work really hard not to feel that feeling again when we go out the the deck and start cooking. And I thought I only felt that way about decorations, not things like a barbecue!
Glad to know there are others with the same, ummm, predicament.
I love Megan's room. (That is my name too!) The molding your husband put up is beautiful. Can't wait to see what you are coming up with!

I have become addicted to reading your blog, anxiously opening it every morning, hoping to see a new post. You inspire me to want to stretch my decorating thought process further. What gets me are the architectural details that you've added with all the moulding & trim. LOVE IT!! The rooms are warm and inviting. Keep up the awe inspiring work. Can't wait to see Megan's (also my daughters name & DIL's name!) finished room.

Heidi! I thought I was the only one. I have told people that so many times and they just look at me like I am insane. Colors are so crucial for me. I have serveral things right now that I bought just before my current pregnancy and I can't stand the site of them. I really have to wait until my last trimester.

Love the new look of the bedroom. I LOVE the big flower pillow. It's adorable. I acutally own that day bed shown in the picture with the tree. I LOVE it. Gabrielle
